HKU will launch a brand-new interdisciplinary MSc programme in Financial Technology and Data Analytics in 2021 with 50 to 60 intakes.
A MoU was signed with the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) to jointly cultivate future FinTech talents. Under the agreement, HKU’s Department of Computer Science from the Engineering Faculty and ASTRI will together develop the Technology Oriented Practitioner (TOP) programme, with ASTRI providing paid full-time employment for up to 30 first-year students for a nine-month period with a salary equivalent to an ASTRI researcher, and assigning them to one of ASTRI’s many ongoing FinTech projects.
Students with recognised Bachelor's degrees in Engineering, Science or related programmes are qualified to apply. The tuition fee for the two-year course is HK$250,000. HKU said its BASc (FinTech) programme has been a success with intake quota extended to 43 in 2020/21, from 21 in 2019/20, with an average admission score of 35 points for the best six HKDSE subjects.
